War Games
When were kids during World War II we greatly admired the men (mostly men) under arms. We played war games: "Salvo" was one. We drew pictures of strafing runs, bombers --- Corvairs, B-24 Liberators.
My cousin David --- still a hero of mine --- was rejected for the draft because of bed eyes. So he joined the Merchant Marine as an "oiler." As it turned out, that was statistically the most dangerous duty.
