Book vs. Movies

The other day I was watching a movie about President Franklin D. Roosevelt and reading a book about him at the same time.
It was no contest: the movie was what drew my attention.
Movies are one of the great art forms of the modern era. I love them.

I love good narrative novels. Not the introspective belly-button gazing kind. I loved Steinbeck, Hemingway,Wouk and Michener. But these days they don't seem to have the wallop of a movie..

belly-button gazing was a european phenomenon, alas adopted by some of our own, like Irving. Tom Wolfe makes fun of them. Then again, we need some belly button gazing, no? Some Albert Camus never hurt no one?
