Is America racist?
Click here: Oprah Seeks To Avoid 2008 Draft - September 19, 2006
There is most surely some real racist feeling in America. Some is just raw bigotry. Some is based on ugly truth: African-American violent crime rates have been about five times disproportionate to their number in the population.
But Americans are willing to vote for blacks.
Oprah says she won't do it.
Barack Obama says he might do it.
SecState Colin Powell refused to do it, although he was ahead in the polls.
So too, I believe, with SecState Condi Rice.
Rev. Jackson Jesse did it twice, in 1984 and 1986. He turned it down in 1992, when might just have one. He had some health problems, but I think he believed that a black man could not win in America. I have mixed feelings about Rev. Jackson, mostly negative.
Rev. Al Sharpton, who I believe, has blood on his hands, has run, and, I think run again.
America is an exceptional nation.
