The Stock Market

The stock market went up again today notwithstanding all the violence in the world. Why? American exceptionalism, the Neo-Con watchword. We are the only country growing in population with plenty of space for them ("flyover country," where dear hearts and gentle people once lived good lives, and where newcomers could again.) We have the "reserve currency" --- that is we issue scrip --- note even backed by gold, as if that did any good. Other nations hoard the paper and send us goods or services in return. They invest a substantial portion of their pension funds in our markets because they are the largest and most transparent --- even the dreaded "Sarbanes-Oxley" law, which should be amended, sends the right signal
