The combination of alcohol and anger is ferocious, potentially deadly.

Unlike nicotine, which is probably as dangerous, alcoholism can be terribly humiliating for the drunk and for his family. Ronald Reagan went through it when he was a young boy. The drunk in Hoosiers shames his son.

Gibson has done some fine movies, on unpopular themes, many of them on quite patriotic and noble themes, i.e Braveheart

The apple does not fall far from the the tree. As I understand it, his father was a viscious anti-Semite.

Most humans harbor antagonistic feelings toward the other. Even the Jews.

Getting it out in the open can help. That why support groups like Alcoholics Annonymous seem to work well.

Leave him alone, for a while.
