A fine President, under-appreciated...

President Gerald Rudolph Ford (GRF) is a fine man and was a fine President.

When President Richard M, Nixon was forced to resign as President, GRF lifted the spirits of a glum nation.

In 1976, he was running way behind Gov. Jimmy Carter and caught up. Carter won with 50.1 % 0f the popular vote (the last time a Democrat has cracked 50.0%.)

Ford was mocked by the comedian Chevy Chase, because he fell down periodically. He was supposed to be a bumbler.

Fact is he was an All-American football player in Michigan, and perhaps our most athletic President. He had a "trick knee."

He got us out of Vietnam under the best terms he believed he could manage.

He had a shrewd political sense, and believed deeply in America.

I didn't agree with everything he did, but I salute him.

Ben
