Jews & Sports

Jews, in caricature, are often thought of as intellectuals, professors, financiers etc. But when they were up-and-coming (like blacks and Latinos today) they were into some pretty tough sports. Bennie Leonard and Max & Buddy Baer were boxers. Sid Luckman was quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Hank Greenberg was a Detroit Tiger slugger who almost broke Babe Ruth's 60 home run record (and sat down on Yom Kippur to go to Shul) --- caught hell from anti-Semites...
The stories of sports and society is serious and fascinating stuff. Everywhere you around the world, someone will say "You know, this is a sports-crazy country."
Best,
Ben
