Advice re not crtinzing cretinsI have been advised not to creitve namelsess cretins...

I have been advised not to call Anonymous cretins "Anonymous cretins." So I won't call Anonymous cretins "Anonymous cretins."

"Annoymous" has left a new comment on your post "Rather a different image":

Lieberman is a cretin. His re-election, along with that of Bush in 2004, and any/all other politicians who have supported the war in Iraq, for that matter, shows that true democracy in the US is in terminal decline.

The President, and the Congress were not elected by the voters? The courts were not appointed by elected officials elected by the voters?

Question: Without an electorate willing to hold a government and politicians accountable for something as egregious as waging aggressive war (which some Germans were executed for after WWII) for stated reasons that were later proven to be completely bogus, what sort of "democracy" do you really have?

The elections of 2006 where Rs were voted out of office allegedly (albeit dubiously) on the issue of Iraq, were not an excercise in accountability?

Did not even Democrats vote to fund the war they hate, just as they did in Vietnam, where 25 times as many military men and a few women, mostly conscripts, were involved in action, at a time when the U.S. population was about 1/3 less?

Of course, authoratarian governments will not be in agents of their own destruction. But doesn't it tell you something when invaders are met with rose petals strewn in their path?

Is not blending realism with idealism as old as the hills of America:

John Winthrop's
City on the Hill sermon," the Declaration, the Constitution, the Civil War which became a referendum on whether a nation so conceived and so dedicated could long endure, Woodrow Wilson's (failed) League of Nations, Franklin D. Roosevelt's Four Freedoms, John F. Kennedy's New Frontier, Scoop Jackson's Jackson-Vanik Amendment, Ronald Reagan's "Tear Down the Wall," George W. Bush's stirring 2004 Inaugural --- are not all these re-statements of of "Let Freedom Ring"?

Old Jewish proverb: Answer a question with a question. Good idea. Yes?

Ben
