I like the Aussies, but ...

I've been to Aus-try-lya several times.
They do indeed have a strange history.
They were valued allies in WWII,Vietnam and Iraq, at least.
I visted there in 1966 with President Johnson. I was almost crushed to death in Darwin during (I think) an anti-war rally.
I watched as LBJ stopped his motorcade to press the flesh. After a while, Prime Minister Henry Holt got the idea and joined in the fun.
In 1984, I was there at a Young Presidents Organization (YPO) global conference. In the evening we were taken to see a sort-of vaudeville show. There was a surprising amount of crude anti-Semitism.
I once got stuck in Karachi over weekend (riots, again...). The Austrailan rugby team was cooped up in the Inter-Conti along with your poster-boy.
They were drunker than skunks.
On balance, I'' take 'em.
Waltz 'em Matilda.
