Excuse me... but
Click here: 2 Americans Win Nobel in Physics - New York Times
First, this is good news.
Second, I believe that Americans have won about 2/3rds of all Nobel Prizes, even thought there has been evidence of political picking. That's what happens when you pretty much leave free people, from everywhere, alone to do their work.
I think we created SDI ("Stars Wars") because we had kids in their garages hacking around with something called "computers." It was not a real good idea. I don't believe you could "hit a "pebble with a pebble", with surety, when a fleet of 5,000 MIRVs were coming at you.
Third, the idea of no nukes as advocated by St. Ronald, was a bad idea. Once the genie is out of the bottle, how would you like Saddem Hussein to have the only five nuclear weapons in the world...
Fourth, Astrophysics is fascinating stuff. But no one is ever going to find out the origin of the universe. As Job says in The Good Book, it is "beyond our ken."
