The best investment in the world ... ( ? )

Except for all the potholes, the tilted sidewalks, the slithery surfaces --- I think the metroplex of Washington DC is becoming (or is) the grandest city in the world. Is.

It is the locus of power, science, geo-politics and so much more.

I think buying real estate (even on a modest scale) in Greater DC is probably the best investment in the world.

But I learned a lesson some years ago.

Together with a wise and shrewd real estate investor, I purchased a small house in Burleith, just North of Georgetown.

We remodelled, furnished it and put it on the market. Real estate prices in Greater DC rarely tumble, they kind of stay flat, then jump. This time they tumbled.

So we had a very difficult time renting it.

I found out somthing that I didn't understand before: That in real estate a person can lose more than that person invested.

How so?

Mortgage payments, upkeep, taxes.

Even investing in risky call options the worst that can happen is that investor loses 100% of his money.

So: A yellow flag for caution is advised.
