Why? I'll tell you why... Ben in BOLD

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Greg Easterbrook is...":

The entire population of the world could each get an acre of land in Texas.

China is bigger than Texas, so presumably they'd get more than an acre in China, and yet China has a one child policy. Why?

Because China has a coercive, sometimes murderous policy of forced abortion. They will pay the price when they have eleven young people to support 700,000,000 elderly.

Not all land can support human habitation. And there is a limit to the carrying capacity of the land that is habitable and arable. Not to mention quality of life issues in urban areas...

More of it that you think. All you need is water, an air-conditioner or heater and an electric socket. One day the water will come from sea water distilled by nuclear power, and the land will flow with milk and and hone.

I disagree with one idea of his. He seems concerned if America should grow to 500-600 million people. He shouldn't be.

I think few Americans would agree that an America with twice as many inhabitants as today would be a better place to live.

I don't think you would even notice it. Is America with 300,000,000 people a better place to live than when the first Census was taken in 1790?

You betcha it is.

Apparently, you're intellectually unable to distinguish between the reasons behind a policy (in this case China's 'one child' policy) -- which is what was asked about -- and one possible means of enforcing that policy. And yet you are a "SENIOR FELLOW, AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE". Go figure.
