Universities bring talent and money to a community. Sometimes "town-gown" relationships suffer.
In the Metro DC area bothe George Mason University and the University of Maryland have vast expanision plans. They are, or will be, in the top tier of educational institutions.
And GMU, in particular, has not been overun by the loonie left.
